We like the way design incorporates the in situ facemask, and the diagonal bars look like a smart call for stability. Thanks for posting, Bob. I would use a go-pro on a head band for mountain biking.
Thanks for your question, Samantha!

Re: EXP Innovation

Derek, thank you for your comment.
Our helmet cam was not built to be a low-cost steadi-cam. Its unique purpose is to be a hands-free, POV rig that can also capture the movements of the operator throughout the scene. Our project required our DP to actually be the first-person character. None of the available steadicam configurations would have worked for us.

Re: EXP Innovation

We included excerpts from those famous films merely to give readers who may not be familiar with film terms and technique a few familiar examples of POV.

The reputations of Mssrs. Hitchcock and Scorsese should remain unharmed by our enthusiasm for our pet creation.

Re: EXP Innovation

We needed a hands-free camera rig like this because the DP was more than a camera operator; he was the main character. His hands and/or feet are visible in all of the scenes as he interacts with other characters. We could not use any of the conventional POV shooting approaches made famous in "Rear Window."

Re: EXP Innovation

What’s the best way to use it while mountain biking?

Re: EXP Innovation

Do you think Quentin Tarantino would have been able to make a better Pulp Fiction if this camera was produced when he recorded the movie?

Re: EXP Innovation

If you remove the camera, can this helmet double as orthodontic braces in extreme cases?

Re: EXP Innovation

To put the names Alfred Hitchcock and Martin Scorsese in the same breath as these “ground-breaking, cutting-edge” weight-balanced, camera-mounted helmet people… is like saying space monkeys were also pioneers of the universe just like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Re: EXP Innovation

Alfred Hitchcock shot most of his POV’s with the huge Bolex 16mm. The EXP team custom-built it for our "A Day in the Life--The Accident" series.
How much do you think a camera rig like this would fetch?

Re: EXP Innovation

Thanks for reading, Dan!
The fixture on top of the helmet is a camera screw. Anything that can attach to a camera screw can be mounted there. If that doesn't work with your gear, you could insert different hardware in that top vent hole to accommodate a shotgun mic or similar. An actual boom might get unwieldy for the operator.

Re: EXP Innovation

Explain how the helmet camera works when you are using an actor who is taller than the videographer. Like if the actor is 6'2" and the videographer is 5'4", does the videographer have to put on 10" heels to get the camera to the height for the proper POV angle?
